Out of SHAPE!!
I know you probably don't care- and if you have never tumbled this may never make sense. But... it was on my mind. Read on if you wish.
So. I have now taught tumbling/gymnastics/cheer/etc... for like 5 years. I have been teaching this whole time that you cannot tumble unless you have the correct muscles. All this time I knew this. Logically it makes sense. But... I didn't REALLY understand until... I tried to tumble yesterday.
Candace is getting ready for cheer try outs, so me, her, and Cher went out in our front yard to help her work on her jumps/tumbling. I decided to join- or attempt to join in.
Problem one. My stomach muscles have not been stretched out in like 7 months. It took me a while, and I can now barely do a backbend. ((Cheryl had to spot me on a BACKBEND!))
Problem two. I have absolutely no ABS. I went to do a roundoff tuck, and didn't have the ab muscles to pull my legs in in my tuck. I was plenty high enough- but I think it looked like I was floating aimlessly in the air.
Problem three. I haven't bent my back like that in forever, or had to use my back muscles in order to hold my body up.
I about killed my wrists. I need to stretch my shoulders. Well- and my ab muscles out.
I tried to do a backbend kickover- and didn't have the AB strength enough to well. Kick over.
I still know how to do everything and have good form.... But everything is alot more painful.
I am now back to my 'normal' weight- but so far from my 'normal' body.
This could be alot harder than I thought!
We took Lucy to church on Sunday to Tyler Vorhees's farewell. Isn't she a doll?

This was after church. I love the green!!

Oh Car, I feel for you. Not that my tucks and I ever measured up to your doubles over there but still. I got some surgery my freshman year of college and couldn't cheer for six weeks. That surgery and the leave I had to take while recovering made me lose my strength for tumbling for quite sometime. You never realize what muscles you are really using till they are on vacation for a bit! :) I have no doubt you'll have everything back in no time though... Cute baby and cute mommy!
ReplyDeleteShe is adorable! I love the green outfit too!
ReplyDeleteI feel that and I haven't even had a freaking baby! Good luck to me when I have one. Your baby is adorable again, She reminds me of dorothy in her church outfit, so cute!
ReplyDeleteCarly, first off I'm so impressed you are back to your normal weight so fast! Way to go girl! If you can do that quickly I have no doubt you will be tumbling again in no time! You baby girl is freakin adorable!!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you were already trying to tumble so soon after a baby amazes me!!
ReplyDeleteWas she born a lot smaller than you guys expected or were you planning on her growing into those bows? Holy Crap!
ReplyDeleteShe is so cute! I cant believe you are back to your normal weight, well actually I can since you only gained 15 pounds! Thats not hard to get skinny when you dont get fat haha. I tumbled the other night during work when my tumblers went into dance for a sec to do their routine. I made sure no one was watching. I was on a spring floor tumbling doing lay outs and wanted to try my full but was too scared so I did some on the tramp to make sure I knew how to turn my body still and I could but right when I went to try it on the mat the girls came back in and I was not about to make a fool of myself trying it. ANYWAY, the next day I was thinking why do the back of my legs and my arms and shoulders and stomache hurt...and then I remembered I tumbled the night before. I couldnt believe that just about every muscle in my body was sore..thats when I remembered how tumbling really seriously uses all your muscles and you have to be in great shape! I couldnt tumble on the grass if I wanted to. GO YOU!
