To run or not to run... That is the question.
SO. Here's the story. Last May I signed up to run the Hobblecreek 1/2 marathon. I was pumped. Started training. Went to Lake Powell. Came home, went running and nearly died. I couldnt' figure out why I was dying after running a mile. Well turns out I was prego. SO- my money was gone and I didnt' run the 1/2 marathon.
Fast forward to this April. Signed up to run the Hobblecreek 1/2 marathon. I was pumped. Started training. Went to Lake Powell. Kept Running. Ran the Kaysville 4th of July 10k. Survived. Ever since than, my training has been lacking. Currently-- ran a couple times last week, went to pilates yesterday, planning on running 5 miles tonight....
So the question is... Should I still run it? My dad says its mostly downhill.. I know it will be hard... but, will I die if I try to run it without really training that well? The most I think I have run is like, well a 10k. I need advice. Help.

Okay Carly, please don't think I'm a weirdo...I'm Kenzie (Ferguson) Stratford's older sister and she has your blog bookmarked on hers so I look at yours occasionally-- You have a darling little family! I'm both Tyler's and your brother Shawn's age and knew them in school.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, about this half marathon you've signed up to do; I think a good thing to go by is how you feel after you've run five or six miles or so. If you feel great, like you could go on forever, you would definitely do just fine running a half-marathon. If you feel like you'd like to be doubled over puking your guts out, I probably wouldn't attempt it :)
It's hard trying to train for big races when you're a mommy and your life and your time aren't "all yours" anymore!
What's the worst that could happen if you gave it a go though?
Hey Carly!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the other comment...if you feel good after a 5 mile run, just keep going and DO IT!
I (didn't) train for a relay marathon I ran after high school, but my mom had run a couple marathons, and she told me that come race day, I could double what I regularly run...and I found that to be true.
The adrenaline kicks in and you can make it twice what you have trained for.
Anyway, if worse comes to worse, just walk the last couple miles. You will probably regret NOT doing it at all, or at least I would:)
I am just starting to train for the wasatch back next summer, but I wanted to run the Hobblecreek and just never got registered....so I hope you have fun!!

Run it! Especially if you're already registered. I ran the Moab 1/2 marathon a couple years ago and I didn't train very well. I've also NEVER been a runner so I don't know what possessed me to run it, but I'm so glad I did! It might be painful and really hard, but you won't die and I definitely don't think you'll regret doing it after it's all over with.
ReplyDeleteYou won't Die...you might just want to when you're running it:) just kidding. I support either! How's it going? Is cute Lucy liking food? Hope you're doing good!
