mother of the year award

just hangin out at DQ to see Uncle Kyle before he left for college down at Dixie!

i was just thinking. no one in my immediate family has ever had to have a cast for anything-- Huh.
Looks like we are starting a new trend Lucy!

Lucy broke her arm last Tuesday, 8/16/11-- while we are at the park and splash pad with our ward.
She went over to play at the park for a minute with some older little girls, and I thought I should probably walk over there and check on her, because she is rather fearless.
Just as I walk over there she is climbing up to swing on a bar-- it's about 4-5' off the ground, she gets on and starts swinging and just slips off and landed on the ground on her arm. I was probably 2 feet away from her. I didn't think to even try to catch her, because if you know Lucy you know she falls like it's her job, and she is seriously tough as nails. Right away I knew something was wrong- she started just sobbing and would not stop for anything. She usually gets a mean bruise or cut and just jumps back up because she still wants to be playing and playing with friends-- she was begging me to go home and go to bed and kept saying, 'Owie- Hurt' just crying so hard.

I called my pediatrician on the way home, and there isn't much they can do, so they recommended going to Primary Children's ER-- Tyler suggested i just give her a bunch of Ibuprofen and take a nap and see how she felt when she woke up, well my mom was there by the time she woke up, and she still said her arm hurt, but was so happy the rest of the day, and just not using her arm very much.
That night however when the medicine wore off, we could tell it was really hurt.
Luckily Tyler's dad's good friend is a fabulous orthopedic surgeon, so we made an appointment to see him the next morning-- so glad we didn't have to go to the ER!

I was pretty bummed we had to miss out on Cherry Hill the last week of summer... Tear... haha... I'm more upset about it than she is, but Lucy was a champ and was so good at the Doctor's office.
Both of the bones in her right forearm are bent. I guess little kid's bones are still pliable, so instead of them actually breaking, they are both just curved!
She is in a little splint for two weeks, and then we go back to see if she can take it off.
She doesn't mind it at all, and has been so good with it on. It really helps that she is left-handed too, or I'm sure she would be getting frustrated all the time.
The splint is more on so that she doesn't hurt it worse again if she falls, it's a good thing it's on too, because she already fell in the Doctor's office parking lot walking out to our car, and the next day dove head-first out of our shopping cart at target.

I'm a really good mom. =)

Here we are at the splash pad today-- nothing like some good ol' saran-wrap and masking tape.

Like I said, I'm a really good mom. =)
