Tonight I am preparing my Sunday School lesson for tomorrow. We teach the 12-18 year olds in our church, and the theme for the Month of May is the Prophets. I am looking back over the recent General Conference addresses that were made by the loving prophets of our church and as I read them I am so overcome with the spirit. I may not know much, but I know that these men are the true prophets and speak the words of God. It's so amazing to me that each time I read a conference address I find myself smiling, tearing up, and just being filled with the spirit. I feel so much peace and comfort and I know what they are saying is true. I do. I know it! It's pretty cool. Anyway... If you want to read more conference talks go to lds.org . I love President Monson's talk on Obedience, and you really can't go wrong with Elder Holland. Has the man ever not given a show-stopper talk? He's my fav.
Since we're talking quotes, I want to talk a little about President Monson's talk on Obedience, You can read it HERE. I feel like the world is sucking us all in. All of these things that we have been taught our whole lives are wrong they are slowly tricking us into thinking they are ok... From sex, to gay marriage, drugs, media, etc... etc... the list goes on, but it really comes down to this: If you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, then you need to obey. I know that sounds so 'harsh' or whatever it may be, but it's true. If you believe, then obey! I've found that not everything makes sense to me all the time, but it comes down to this: I believe I am a daughter of my Heavenly Father and that he knows me and he loves me. I believe that Jesus Christ died for us and atoned for our sins. I believe that Joseph Smith is a true prophet and restored the true church. I believe the Book of Mormon is true. I believe that President Monson is the prophet and receives revelation from God that becomes scripture. I believe that the things spoken in General Conference are true. I love the temple, I love the church, and I know that when I am OBEYING and living the gospel that I am happier and I can feel the spirit in my life, and that I am blessed. Because I believe these things, I must obey. If I obey I can return to Heaven and live in the Celestial Kingdom! How cool is that!? Haha, but seriously. Because I have such an amazing testimony of the savior and his love for me, I trust him. I trust him 100%. And that is what is most important. If we trust him, we need to obey. And it won't always be easy. Satan is working his very hardest on us, he is trying OH so hard to get us to stop listening. And he does it slowly, just an inch at a time so that we don't even really know we are slipping away. He is so powerful and he has his followers helping him, here on this earth, and they are trying so hard to get us to stop obeying. This is why we can't just go through the motions, we have to FIGHT back! We need to be ready, because we will face challenges a plenty. Life will not be easy, it will be hard, and Satan will be there trying to drag us down. We need to put on our armor and be ready. If we trust in our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, if we KNOW that they love us and want what is best for us, then we MUST listen to him and follow there teachings. No questions asked. Period. There is no justifying the ways of the world. A family is central to his Gospel. I feel so much peace coming to this realization. I have tried to justify a lot of little things, but I know now, I know that there is none of that. It's black and white- we believe and we follow him, or we don't. I know which path I choose to follow, and it's his.
I know that people are not perfect, and I especially know that I am not perfect. I know that people who are members of his church are not perfect, but the gospel is. It is perfect! I know it is easy to become offended by people in his church, etc... It's easy to be led astray. But the gospel is perfect. There is NO other way. I just want to end by saying again, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ know us each personally. They are aware of our struggles and challenges. Christ has been there, he loves us. If we put our trust and faith in him, we will be led to Happiness.
The End.
Oh, and one of my favorite quotes is from President Gordon B. Hinckley, it goes along the lines of saying, "In all of living have much fun and laughter, Life is meant to be enjoyed, not just endured."
