Hannah Montana & Oprah

Ok so my mommy and little Can-Can came down today. We went to lunch and watched Candace practice her solo! She will be performing it for the first time down in St George next weekend! (I wish I could go, but it's Tyler's birthday... such bad timing!)

Anyway. So we came back to my apartment for a little while so I could feed Lucy, and turned on Oprah. (Ellen was a rerun. =)) I guess fridays she does this 'live show' where her and some people talk about her shows earlier in the week and just whats going on in the world (My mom calls it her rendition of 'The View'.) WELL. I guess yesterday she had some lady on talking about how to talk to your kids about sex. {I'm sure you can watch it on Oprah.com} So.. Im all for being open with your children, and talking to them about sex and sexuality, etc.. but what this lady said was just disturbing. She was saying basically that mothers should talk to their young teenage girls (ages 10-13) and teach them about self sexual stimulation (aka.. masturbation), and teach them that its ok to do in order to get in touch with their sexuality. And that this will help them so that later in life when they do get in a relationship-- or just start kissing a guy for the first time and start 'feeling those feeling's', that if they have already masturbated in their life, and felt those feelings and an orgasm before that then they wont' go farther with the guy than the want to, because they know that they can just give themselves that sexual arousing feeling themselves.
Me and my mom both looked at each other in shock... AHH! What is the world coming to? I agree you should teach your young girls all about sex and their sexuality, and even about 'self sexual stimulation' and that it is WRONG. Oprah was all for it, it was horrible.
Hopefully you can watch the clip, or read more about it. I am not the most eloquent speaker, or writer, and don't do the conversation or 'advice' justice. I'd love to hear your thoughts, because I was absolutely disgusted... I hate the idea that Lucy has to grow up in this sick world sometimes!

Back to a lighter note... later that day my mom, Candace, Lucy , Tyler and I went to the Hannah Montana movie! (Yes. Tyler came.) It was actually a really cute show! It's refreshing to go to a wholesome movie every once in a while! I really did like it. Miley Cyrus is so cute!

  1. That is disturbing. Why is it that a generation or two ago it was expected of girls (and boys) to wait until marriage to have sex, but now the common (or at least what the media promotes as common) opinion is that girls and boys can't control themselves and shouldn't have to. I'm sure plenty of teens were sexually active back in the day, but there were a lot more who weren't. Ugh. Good thing there are still plenty of doctors and child psychologists who don't endorse this kind of parental behavior, and believe you can still raise a sexually healthy child/teen without encouraging them to self-stimulate.

  2. Wow that is a little much! I can't believe they said that and that Oprah agreed! Man, that is sad.

  3. I saw that episode which is Ironic because I do not like Oprah. But Chris and I were in Vegas this weekend, and Macie was napping in the hotel room and we stopped on that channel. Chris and I were VERY shocked to hear the discusting things they were saying. People really should watch the clip because they said WAY too much to be on TV. Oprah doesn't even have children, and she isn't married so I hate when she acts like she knows it or like she has been there. It was very disturbing!

  4. That's so sad that Oprah is promoting that. That really is disturbing. I'm glad to have the gospel to keep me grounded in such a confused world. Seriously, its a little scary thinking about raising kids in society today. I'm glad to know that there are other good women trying to promote good values in a world that mainly mocks good things. Seriously, thats so sad.
